anna

Anna was the wife of EarthForce Captain John Sheridan. Her best friend was Sheridan's sister Liz, who introduced them. The novelization of In The Beginning gives her maiden name as Keller.

She was an archeologist working as a consultant for IPX, and couldn't pass up an opportunity to join the fateful resarch mission to Z'Ha'Dum aboard the Icarus. For many years it was believed that the crew of the Icarus died in a tragic accident, but the truth was discovered shortly before the start of the Shadow war.

The crew had stumbled upon the Shadows, who could not risk discovery by the rest of the galaxy. Those who agreed to serve them, such as Morden, were spared. It was thought that those who refused to serve, as Anna did, had been killed.

In fact Anna had been placed in the core of a Shadow warship, to serve as its central processor. Brainwashed into forgetting almost everything she had ever been, Anna nonetheless held onto her name.

When her ship was destroyed by the techno-mage Galen, he discovered Anna at its core. And Anna discovered Galen, whose body was implanted with bits of technology. With the Shadows' programming firmly in place, Anna had the desire to bond to and control any machine or computer she came into contact with. Bereft of her ship, she focused that desire upon Galen.

Curious as to her identity and wishing to help her if he could, Galen used his own tech implants and the link Anna had forged with him, to discover her full name. He did not know the name's meaning, but the telepath who later scanned him on behalf of the Shadows did know.

The Shadows realized Anna was once the wife of the man who led the war against them, and removed her from the ship in which she had been newly implanted. Sent to Babylon 5 to bring John Sheridan to Z'Ha'Dum, she was unable to fool him into thinking she was the same woman he had married.

But Sheridan returned to Z'Ha'Dum with Anna anyway, believing it his best chance to turn the war for his side. In the end the Shadows' underground city was virtually destroyed, and Anna was killed in the explosion.

Anna is featured in the Babylon 5 novels The Shadow Within and the Passing of the Techno-mages trilogy, Casting Shadows, Summoning Light, and Invoking Darkness, all by Jeanne Cavelos.

She is portrayed in the season three finale, Z'Ha'Dum, by Melissa Gilbert.
